In an effort to pursue the quality of life I desire, and one I feel nudged towards in this season, I'm taking another extended break from most social media. I took a similar hiatus two years ago for about five months. It was indescribably freeing and I long for that again.
I love so much about social media but am constantly seeking ways to engage with it in a way that honors God, the time on earth he's given me, and my family. For me, in this season of life, that means less social media.
This time, however, I'm not removing myself entirely.
My plan is to collect some thoughts, photos, foster care updates, a recipe or recommendation, new shop items, good reads, and more throughout the month and compile it all into one little "Goodwill Living Letter"... think newsletter meets blog meets quaint art shop meets coffee with a friend. My hope is to send this out about once a month through the end of the year.
Also, with each Letter I plan to include a downloadable word-art image, either one I previously sold in the shop or something new.
I love sharing in everyone's exciting moments and updates via the web and I'll of course miss that. But please, if you feel so inclined, send me an email or letter in the meantime, or better yet, come over for real coffee.
One of my lifelong inspirations, Elisabeth Elliot, sent out a monthly newsletter for over twenty years and I so relate to what she said in her final letter in 2003:
So, dear friend, I hope you will join me once a month for what I hope will be a good word or two. If you aren't already an email recipient here's where to jump in. (If you already receive my blog updates via email, this is the same list so no need to sign up again.)
